Last year, we ceased publication of the full systemwide directory. Instead, we reproduced the front section of the directory, providing campus organizational information, for a limited printing. Because of the budgetary reductions, it is no longer possible for the UCOP Department of Information Resources and Communications to print this front section edition. Therefore, the publication of the systemwide directory has been completely canceled, and that campus online directories and web sites should be used to obtain directory and organizational information. Thank you for your understanding of the budgetary restrictions that compel us to make this decision.
We can't afford to print out a document that states where people are? Not only is UCB deferring good students to community colleges and UC Merced, now we can't even afford our own publications? And after all of this, I had to sit through some people lecturing me about how "Arnold is doing a good job"??? Anytime education is put at the bottom of the priority list, the person in charge should be removed. sigh
When I was at Cornell, not only did we have campus directories, but we also had free internet access from anywhere on campus. We also allowed visitors to use our internet connection to collect their files and provide valuable feedback. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy associated with public education has grown to a point that we can't even offer our colleagues access to resources essential for research.
