Last year, we ceased publication of the full systemwide directory. Instead, we reproduced the front section of the directory, providing campus organizational information, for a limited printing. Because of the budgetary reductions, it is no longer possible for the UCOP Department of Information Resources and Communications to print this front section edition. Therefore, the publication of the systemwide directory has been completely canceled, and that campus online directories and web sites should be used to obtain directory and organizational information. Thank you for your understanding of the budgetary restrictions that compel us to make this decision.

We can't afford to print out a document that states where people are? Not only is UCB deferring good students to community colleges and UC Merced, now we can't even afford our own publications? And after all of this, I had to sit through some people lecturing me about how "Arnold is doing a good job"??? Anytime education is put at the bottom of the priority list, the person in charge should be removed. sigh

When I was at Cornell, not only did we have campus directories, but we also had free internet access from anywhere on campus. We also allowed visitors to use our internet connection to collect their files and provide valuable feedback. Unfortunately, the bureaucracy associated with public education has grown to a point that we can't even offer our colleagues access to resources essential for research.

If anyone knows where I can get flying toasters screensaver for windows, please let me know. I need the flying toasters. Seriously. Have you seen the flying toasters? They're rad.

I've gotten numerous IM's saying "when are you going to update your blog? In fact, Steve uses my blog to procrastinate at work (sorry Steve, your secret is out). So here's your update, I'm sure it was worth the anticipation... (note sarcasm)

The big news is that I got two papers into SenSys and I'm submitting demo and poster proposals for SenSys too. I'm also submitting at least one paper to this year's EWSN that takes place in early 2005 in Istanbul (which was once Constantinople). Moteiv is going well and we have completely sold out of our first production run so we're making many many many more units to meet the demand.

And since you wanted an update, here's a silly picture to go with it.
It was taken by Acacia at this year's Los Altos Art and Wine festival. I'm wearing silly glasses and making a not-so-funny face (but shhh, I actually secretly like the picture and I don't know why). I need to dye my hair again though. 'Til the next time (which will probably be another 2 months)...
